A diagram portraying aspects of BEA.

What is the BEA?

The BEA is the enterprise architecture for the DoD Business Missions Area. The purpose of the BEA is to provide a blueprint for DoD business transformation that helps ensure the right capabilities, resources and material are rapidly delivered to our warfighters - what they need, when they need it, where they need it, anywhere in the world.

The BEA guides and constrains implementation of inter-operable defense business system solutions as required by the Section 2222 of Title 10 United States Code. It also guides information technology investment management to align with strategic business capabilities as required by law. BEA is comprised of a set of integrated viewpoint products. The viewpoints display capabilities, activities, processes, data, information exchanges, business rules, system functions, services, system data exchanges, technical standards, terms, and linkages to Laws, Regulation and Policies (LRP).

Resources

The supporting Integrated Business Framework-Data Alignment Portal (IBF-DAP) companion system, which enabled informed DBS decision based on data, was sunset in 2022. The front facing BEA was taken off of the public web in 2024 and remains accessible to those in the Pentagon network at Business Enterprise Architecture (BEA). The data contents are being extracted and can be found at the following Intelink site to those approved for access: BEA 11.2 - Home. Currently, system compliance is done within the DITPR environment DITPR/DADMS | Integrated IT Portfolio Management, while the BEA is being rebuilt in the Enterprise Knowledge Repository (EKR) Aris environment ARIS - Home. The EKR-Aris environment is also the home to the Army and Navy BEAs, with plans to be the home for others in an integrated environment. The DOD BEA is the high-level enterprise construct to which the other BEAs must align.
